Map: Martian Scream! (poosticks origional Map 00) Players: FutureBot, GBL_poosticks Note: YOU NEED THE "MARTIAN SCREAM!" MAP TO PLAY BACK THIS DEMO OF COURSE :) «Peewees,Vets, and Self Destruction! + *cough*comm-rushing*cough* (Bad poo! - heh heh heh)» »The intro: Well this is a great game to learn from. Both in terms of what to do and what not to do, but also displays the influence that 'veteran' status can make on unit performance. This map it must be noted plays very fast. 10 minute games are the norm it seems but this one is a grand exception lasting some 24 minutes (pretty good for a 4x4 map I reckon). I have found a few tactics that seem to work pretty well here, so was in the mood for a bit of experimenting. FutureBot happily obliged my request to "build peewees" against my CORE start. »The guts: To begin with my start seems appaling, but only because my Immo's newbie performance sucked so drastically! With no other defense (except Mr Comm), Bot's 'Peewee tide of death' quickly put me on the back foot much to my consternation =P Luckily for me, I got up a Vech plant (at least for a while) and produced enough Slashers to by time for my Immo' to hit it's magical +10 kills. After +10 kills, there seems to be a distinct increase in rate of fire, turret speed, accuracy, and range here. Though it still seems to take the same number of hits to kill a peewee, so perhaps damage is not increased as previously thought. Of course with increased accuracy less shots can be fired for more dead Peewees :) After about 10 minutes of moderate expansion around his start area and happily making Peewees, Bot decides to take the plunge and move east. This was a pretty safe call considering my plant had been killed! Smart also in that had I decided to Comm rush his initial position he would have been easily trapped in my blast radius had he killed my Comm on the way. Quickly getting a new plant up and noting how bot so generously provides me with a steady income of metal ;) I quickly fire out a few Slashers only to have Rocko's now hitting me from above! Well obviously this guy now has 2 plants and I am in deep poopoo =P So after this 12˝ minute battering I was all set for a drastic and undignified end :\ Gathering what troops I had, up I marched. My Slashers and d-gun cleared the way, and with Bot in sight I vaporised his Rocko plant. Bot happily evens the score, first blowing away most of my Slashers in 1 SHOT!!! then crusing down to wipe out my base. However, I kept on the move figuring the odds still werent even enough =P A few d-gun blasts, capturings of mexxes and winds later I staved off Peewees from Bot's new plant (he has 2 again! :\). Now there is a thing you have to watch out for when capturing. Obvously if your enemy is paying close enough attention he will self destruct the unit rather than have it captured. But there is more to this than meets the eye. Here are some stats... CORMEX/CORWIN: SelfDestructAs=SMALL_BUILDING; Damage=900; CORVP: SelfDestructAs=LARGE_BUILDING; Damage=1800; ARMCOM/CORCOM: MaxDamage=3000; What does this mean? Well, unless yer commy is as fit as a fiddle, you ought not to be capturing stuff (unless yer truly desperate =P) It also means that if your in a position to capture an enemy plant your probably gonna be toast if it explodes in your face :) The rest of the game follows the general trend established, the last word of note once more shows annother effect of 'veteran' status. Bots commander gets hit with up to 1800 damage. This kinda looks like it shoulda killed him, but veteran status also increases the MaxDamage value.
